Bar Jamón | Gramercy Park, Manhattan
“Go at 5, so you can get a seat,” was my sister’s advice. Which is good advice for a bar with 10 stools. We didn’t heed it on our second visit. Strolled in at 9ish after dinner. It was packed. We looked at each other. Did we want to fight this? Did we really need another glass of wine? This place was a mad house. People were sitting on a bench along the sidewalk having wine. Another large group was cramped around one of the two tables.
Then a couple got up and strolled out the door. We grabbed their seats and ordered some wine. And one block south of Gramercy Park, in the most crowed city in America, on our two stools, everything was right with the world.
