Duke of Perth | Lakeview, Chicago

Careful on Wednesday and Friday — the all-you-can-eat fish and chips brings a crowd. Every other day, great bar. 2009 will be Duke of Perth’s 20th year in Chicago and here’s to 20 more.

Duke of Perth is located on an alley corner with a large front window overlooking Clark Street. It’s adjacent to an apartment I almost rented eons ago that’s main allure was the carefully arranged lingerie on the coffee table. But that’s another story for another time.

Duke of Perth is a Scotch whisky bar. They have a ton of bottles that seem to rotate. (Of course, rumor is there used to be more bottles, but I’m always content with the selection; they always have something I’ve never tried.) They have great pints too with a serious bias towards Scottish ales and only carry the required Irish option (Guiness, of course).

Food is decent, but I mainly go for the booze. It’s a great spot to end the evening winding down over something strong at a comfortable, worn-in table. And it’s even better on a cold winter evening next to their fireplace. Go here to try something new; go here to impress a Scotch-loving friend.
