Mulligan’s | Lauderdale By The Sea, FL
Ideally, it’d be literally on the beach, but Mulligan’s is pretty damn close. It’s one short block away, in the middle of Lauderdale by the Sea’s prime intersection. It has no front walls, which is good, and it’s on a corner. You can smell the beach, the oranges, the paradise. Lauderdale by the Sea is a time warp. It’s the opposite of Miami. Nothing is over four stories tall. Pools are tiny. People walk instead of driving their Ferraris.
Eons ago, we spent a boozy new year’s here and had cocktails with the owner at midnight while the steel drum band played and the world walked by our sidewalk-side table and a new year began. We returned a lot while we were in the area. I’m freezing in Chicago now and can’t wait to return again to Mulligan’s.
